Captain Dowson Tower
The tower is located on the Kandy Colombo main road,which is the boundary between Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces.
If a rebellion happens,after Kandyan convention in 1818 a route was needed to send army quickly from Colombo to Kandy.In 1820 after Edward Barnes appointed as a governor,started to construct Colombo-Kandy road.Captain Dowson was the Head engineer of this.Dowson subtlety cut the ridge and made a route.He amazed the people by drilling the stone in Kadugannawa.So he was promoted to the position of executive engineer.He passed away prematurely before complete the road.
In recognition of his service,built a 38 meters tower in Kadugannawa,under the guidance of Thomas Bridges Skinner.It is the tallest monument in Sri Lanka.
